Ballet Features New Works, Live Orchestra
| |
|
Louisville Ballet's 2000-01 season includes a popular selection from the company repertoire as well as several new works combining the traditional with the unexpected. Highlighting the new season are the Louisville premieres in September of "Appalachia Waltz," a ballet touching on regional themes and imagery, and in March of "Legends of the Last Century," a program comprised of four separate ballets celebrating big names of the 1900s, such as actor Charlie Chaplin and singer Edith Piaf.
The larger-than-life "Where the Wild Things Are," with original costume designs by author/illustrator Maurice Sendak, makes its company premiere in February after selling out performances with dance companies across the country. And three full-length productions fill out the rest of the new season with the classic of classics, "Swan Lake," in November; the holiday tradition, "The Nutcracker," in December, and Lewis Carroll's incredible children's fantasy, "Alice in Wonderland," in April. Also a first, The Louisville Orchestra will perform for five of the six productions on the 2000-01 season, a partnership made possible through the generosity of Fund for the Arts and PNC Bank.
Louisville Ballet offers a variety of subscription packages tailored to fit the needs of any individual or family, priced from $65-$255. Senior, student and child discounts are available for up to 50 percent off regular subscription prices. For more information, contact the Louisville Ballet box office at 502/58-DANCE (583-2623).
